Don't Lose Your Child This Weekend

The Memorial Day holiday weekend is upon us and there's a flurry of activity for most families.

Whether it's sports, graduations, picnics, camping or just the average weekend chores of shopping and doing other errands, it's easy to lose track of everyone.

Mom and Dad may split up to do their part, but who's got the kids? If you have a toddler or small child, do you have a way to keep track of him or her? Is she or he too big for a stroller and wants to walk (or run) everywhere?

My older son had a habit of disappearing on us no matter how hard we tried to watch him. I wish I had the Child Guard Panda when he was small.

The Child Guard Panda is an electronic child leash that is a two part monitoring system to prevent your child from wandering too far away, or to alert you if a stranger tries to abduct him or her.

The cute panda transmitter is worn by your little one (he or she will love it), and the receiver is held by you or another responsible adult. You can adjust the signal range, and the receiver will beep when the distance between you and your child gets too far.

It's an affordable personal safety alarm to prevent the panic felt when you realize your child is not in your sight.

Between A Rock and A Hard Place

The weather's getting warm, finally (at least here in Northern Illinois) and more people are getting outdoors.

Planting, lawn mowing, washing cars, walking, bicycling, BBQ-ing, and talking with the neighbors you haven't seen in a while are all part of the spring season.

Another part of the spring season is getting outside and locking yourself out.. As your door is about to close, you get that dreaded sick feeling that you can't stop because you know you don't have your key with you. All this happens in slow motion too.

Many times I've told myself to go get a few spare keys made and leave one with my trustworthy neighbor or leave one hidden somewhere. Have I done this? No. Have I locked myself out? Yes.

Then I have to go see one of my neighbors and tell her what an idiot I am, use her phone to call my husband or son and wait for someone to come home. Duh!

This weekend, I promise to get some keys made. One will go to my neighbor, and I will hide two of them in a safe place around my house (outside, of course).

There are key hiders meant just for this purpose. I'm going to get the rock key hider and a thermometer key hider.

Neither one looks like it has something to hide, nothing to make a burglar suspicious, innocent looking so no one would suspect a key is hidden inside.

I'll never lock myself out again...

Advantages of A Small Pepper Spray

Women aged 16-25 are the group most likely to be attacked. Anywhere, anytime, they can be a victim, whether it’s a purse snatching or an attempt to rape them. It could be one attacker or a group.

Wouldn’t you rather be prepared than sorry later? If you value your life, or the contents of your purse, which may include your wallet, money, cell phone, keys, personal identification, wouldn’t you want to stack the odds in your favor when it comes to your safety?

One of the easiest ways to defend yourself is with a small pepper spray. Many come with a detachable keychain so you can carry it with you all the time. Others can just be carried in your purse, attached to your car visor, in your pocket, or you can keep several in different places in your home. A small pepper spray can also be disguised as a tube of lipstick or a pen.

How will pepper spray protect you? Once it’s sprayed into an attacker’s face, he will immediately start choking and gasp for air. His eyes will shut from the hot pepper solution contained in the spray. He will be in much pain. The effects will last up to 45 minutes, giving you a chance to get away and call for help.  No permanent damage is done to your attacker, so you don’t have to worry about harming him.

Sometimes, just the threat of being sprayed may be enough for a potential attacker to leave you alone. He’ll probably just move on to an easier target, but you’ll be safe.

Now that you know that you can carry a small pepper spray almost in a way that is known only to you, don’t you want to feel safer and more confident when you’re out? It’s like having a secret. It’s like having an advantage over an attacker. Yeah!!!

A Need For Speed

I attended a business meeting tonight and the topic was about the importance of speed when building a business.

I think the same thoughts can be applied to personal self defense.

Do want to defend yourself slow or fast?
Do you want to reach for your pepper spray slowly while an attacker grabs your purse, or do you want to spray him quickly because you're prepared and carry it in your hand?
Do you want to slowly jab an attacker with your kubaton so he can grab it from you or do you want to quickly poke him in his throat and then run away?
Do you want to slowly threaten him with your stun gun or do you want to quickly stick it into his neck and zap him?

The choice is yours, fast or slow, attack or escape. Just like in building a business, you need to have the proper tools, the knowledge to use them, and then you have to actually be ready to use them when you need to.

Get the strongest pepper spray available or some other self defense products that you can use, then be ready to use them.

Who Wants to Buy A Taser?

So you want to buy a taser! Congratulations!

Now I want to ask you why? Do you have a really good reason?

I ask because out of all the self defense products on the market, a taser is one of the more controversial weapons out there.

You don't have to look far to see a taser story in the news or online, or to hear about them on TV or radio. There have been instances where the taser effects have caused death.

Basically, tasers are stun guns with probes attached to wires that shoot out 15 feet. (Law enforcement models shoot out farther, up to 35 feet). The current from the wires disrupts the central nervous system of the attacker, making him drop like a fly.

All tasers for sale will have to be registered and activated with Taser International before using. When a taser is used, numbered confetti-like paper tags shoot out, and will be used by the police to identify the user.

Taser guns are touted as being almost 100% effective.

So if you can't carry a gun or don't want to, a taser for personal protection can be just what you need. Just remember that it's a different decision from carrying a pepper spray or a stun gun.

One of the most popular models is the C2 Taser due to its size. The C2 Taser Platinum Kit includes a taser training cartridge and target so you can practice,

Remember that being ready and prepared to use your self defense weapon, whatever that may be, gives you a head start in the fight against crime.

Some Things You Just Can't Control

Last week, I wrote about the son of a woman I know who was critically injured in a car accident. He's still in critical condition and still in a coma.

Two nights ago, my son's roommate was hit by a cab in the city and was badly injured. He stepped back off a median strip without looking and got hit. Thanks to a former Marine/neighbor who came out with a towel to stop the bleeding because the kid almost bled to death. He has a few broken bones also. Scary for his family, his friends and my son.

My point of this is not to gross you out, but to say that some things we just can't control and there are some we can.  I think we can control our own safety, to a point, by being prepared.

If you walk alone at night, travel to unknown cities, hang out in seedy areas, or just feel vulnerable for whatever reason, then you need to protect yourself with some type of self-defense product. The strongest pepper spray available, a pointed kubaton, a mini personal alarm, or a high voltage stun gun (if allowed in your state) will make you walk and feel confident.

Sometimes people are victims because they look like easy targets. Don't be one of them.

Pink Mace for Graduation

Many of you have a daughter who is graduating from high school this month or next, and will be going away to college in the fall. It's a scary time for everyone in the family for many reasons.

One of the scary reasons is that young women aged 16-25 are the ones most likely to be raped. And the odds are that it will be by someone they know. Drinking may be involved, too.

Most girls won't report it because they don't want to cause trouble, they're scared and embarrassed, they don't want to go through the police and legal stuff, or they may not even remember enough of what happened because they were drinking.

If they're attacked by a stranger, chances are greater of it being reported.

Either way, give your daughter, granddaughter or niece a pink mace pepper spray keychain as a graduation gift or as a going away gift in the fall. She'll be able to carry it with her keys at all times and she feel safer with it.

You'll feel better knowing she has it too.

Nanny Cameras For Home

Whether you have a newborn, toddler or even an elderly relative left at home with some type of babysitter or in-home help, you may feel uncomfortable.

Letting a stranger into your home to care for a baby or other family member is hard until you really get to know this person. Besides wondering about the level of care given, you also may wonder if she (or he) is going through your belongings, stealing food or other things, or is having unwelcome guests in your home while she's supposed to be "working".

A way around this is to get a nanny camera system for certain areas of your home. Perhaps a teddy bear hidden DVR camera or an air freshener hidden camera placed in the child's bedroom, in the living room, or in another room where a lot of activity takes place.

Many of these wireless DVR hidden cameras are easy to set up and use, and are hidden in ordinary, everyday objects which won't arouse suspicion. When you come home from work, pop the SD card into your computer or hook the cable up to your TV to watch what happened that day.

Hopefully, you'll be pleasantly surprised to see that your child or senior was well cared for.

Michigan Now Allows Tasers

The state of Michigan has passed legislation allowing tasers to be carried by those with concealed carry licenses.

Click here for the full story.

Buy a taser here. Tasers, unlike stun guns, need to be registered  and activated with Taser® International before they can be used .  Then if they're used, confetti-like paper tags are ejected from the gun leaving an identification trail for Taser® and the police.

These devices shoot out two probes to a distance of up to 15', unlike police-grade tasers, which shoot up to 35'.

So, are tasers legal in Michigan? Yes, now they are.

Strongest Pepper Spray Available

Wildfire18% Pepper Spray is the hottest and strongest pepper spray available today.

When you're approached by some dirtbag who's trying to grab you or trying to rob you, hopefully you're carrying this keychain pepper spray in your hand.  Just hold out your arm and spray him right in his grimy face. Watch him start to cough and choke, and probably cry too from the burning. Ooh, too bad, he picked the wrong person to rob today!

Wildfire 18% Self Defense Pepper Spray contains a derivative of 3 Million Scoville Heat Units and is law enforcement strength. The effects are temporary but may last for up to 45 minutes. The defense spray also just can't be washed off. The UV vegetable dye will also stain the attacker, making a police identification easier if he's caught.

Why would you want to carry anything else?
